Macias Awarded for Services at Conference
Judy Macias, an assistant trade director for USDA-APHIS, was awarded for services to the Oregon blueberry industry at the 2016 Oregon Blueberry Conference, held January 25 in Portland.
“Judy has done things above and beyond expectations for the Oregon blueberry industry,” said Bryan Ostlund, executive director of the Oregon Blueberry Commission.
“Judy has been part of a team that has been invaluable in putting together the Korean program for Oregon,” Ostlund said. “She has worked tirelessly behind the scenes.
“Often times we see just the tip of the iceberg of these programs,” Ostlund said. “But it is important to remember that it is not just the signing of the document that goes into the success of these programs; it is all the work behind the scenes.
“We signed the deal with Korea several years ago, but the work never stops,” Ostlund added. “Now we’re moving on to Vietnam, The Phillipines, China, maybe Australia, South Africa.
“Judy is the conduit for USDA. All of the industry communication that we pull together for the Oregon blueberry industry goes through Judy,” he said.
Macias thanked the commission and the blueberry industry, noting, “It isn’t very often that we government people get recognition from the industry and I want to let you know it is very much appreciated.
“There are a lot of other people that also are deserving of this, but thank you very much,” she said.
